About us
Computer Bank Illawarra commenced operations
in October 2005 when Josh Reid, the founder of ComputerBank
Illawarra was challenged by Lighthouse Church's Kingdom
Assignment program. The church gave Josh $100 with the condition
that it could not be spent on himself, but rather on something
for the community. As they say "the rest is history".
ComputerBank is a not for profit, non government, volunteer
based organisation. As part of our commitment we provide
free basic computer systems to disadvantaged individuals,
families, and community groups.
The concept of ComputerBank is operating in other areas
in Australia, the largest is is Melbourne. To obtain more
information about other ComputerBanks check out their web
site on the links page.
ComputerBank has been involved in supplying computers to
individuals and not-for profit organisations in Australia
and overseas. The largest project has been to supply 100
computers to Botswana. The supply of computers to Botswana
was organised through the assistance of University of Wollongong
computer science student Francis Nkakelang who comes from
Botswana.
Another larger project was to supply all the
computers for a computer workshop at Lake Illawarra PCYC.
