About us
ComputerBank is a not for profit, non government,
volunteer based organisation. Our mandate is to provide
free basic computer systems to disadvantaged individuals,
families, and community groups. We also sell computers at
a reasonable rate. Drop by on a Wednesday or Friday between
10am - 3pm and talk to us about what you require.
There are a range of ComputerBank organisations
operating in other areas in Australia. The largest is in
Melbourne. To obtain more information about other ComputerBank
organisations please see our links page.
ComputerBank has been involved in supplying
computers to individuals and not-for profit organisations
in Australia and overseas. The largest project has been
to supply 100 computers to Botswana. The supply of
computers to Botswana was organised through the assistance
of University of Wollongong computer science student Francis
Nkakelang who comes from Botswana.
Another larger project was to supply all the
computers for a computer workshop at Lake Illawarra PCYC.
Computer Bank Illawarra commenced operations
in October 2005 when Josh Reid, the founder of ComputerBank
Illawarra was challenged by Lighthouse Church's Kingdom
Assignment program. The church gave Josh $100 with the condition
that it could not be spent on himself, but rather on something
for the community. As they say "the rest is history".
Currently the volunteers working at ComputerBank
are Ron -"The Webmaster", Rex - "The Man,"
Peter - "Mr iPhone," Keith, Lindy, Phil and Kate
- "The Parroty Apprentice."
